The Nigeria police have arraigned two staff of an Ondo State hotel (name withheld) over the alleged theft of N1.1m.
The hotel’s cleaner, Tayo Abosede, and assistant manager, Yeye Omosuyi, both 30 years old, were arraigned before the Ondo State Magistrates Court sitting in Okitipupa on Friday on two count charges.
The Police prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, informed the court that the defendants and three others at large conspired to commit the act on July 1, around 10.30 a.m. at No. 10, Oluwatuyi Street, Okitipupa.
He said that “the defendants stole an Ecobank ATM card belonging to one Folayemi Igbayemin and transferred N1.1 million from a POS operator to another Ecobank account belonging to Omosuyi.
He noted that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
Meanwhile, the two hotel staffers pleaded not guilty to the charge pressed against them.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr Philip Akinlosetu, admitted them to bail in the sum of N500,000 each and two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until September 12th, 2024 for further hearing.
