Hon Oden Ewa Begins Solar Power Electricity Distribution to Boost Green Economy in Cross River

In a decisive move to promote renewable energy and sustainable living, the Chairman of the Green Economy, Cross River State, Hon. Oden Ewa, has officially launched the distribution of solar-powered electricity systems to households and small businesses across the state. The initiative marks a major leap in the state government’s efforts led by Sen Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the governor of Cross River State, to reduce dependence on the national grid and foster a cleaner, more energy-resilient economy.

The distribution began with 8 families selected under the green economy commission to test the project. Each beneficiary received a comprehensive solar package consisting of a 5kVA 48V inverter, six 600W solar panels, a 5kWh lithium battery (48V), surge protector, 20 meters of solar cable, 20 meters of AC cable, and a solar rack. The system is designed to deliver uninterrupted, eco-friendly power supply capable of supporting both domestic and small-scale commercial needs.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Oden Ewa reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the green economy agenda in the state. According to him, “Powering our communities through clean energy is not just an environmental goal; it is an economic necessity. Every solar panel we install lights up a home, powers a business, and empowers a generation. Cross River must lead the transition to sustainability.”

Interacting with the recipients while delivering these packages, Dr. Usani Ofem commended Hon. Ewa’s proactive leadership, describing the initiative as a clear reflection of practical governance rooted in community impact. He noted that the Green Economy framework in Cross River State under Hon Oden Ewa has become a beacon of innovation and environmental responsibility. “Hon. Ewa’s commitment to maintaining a green economy has significantly lightened the burden that epileptic power supply has placed on citizens,” Dr. Ofem remarked.

In an emotional response, Mr. Ernest Owan, one of the beneficiaries, expressed profound gratitude, calling the project a “game changer” for rural households. “For years, we have endured inconsistent power and high generator costs,” he said. “This initiative is not just providing light—it’s restoring hope.”

The Green Economy Office, under Hon. Oden Ewa’s leadership, continues to champion projects that align with Governor Bassey Otu’s vision of a sustainable and inclusive Cross River State. The solar power distribution represents another milestone in the ongoing mission to empower communities through innovation, sustainability, and clean energy.

The Engr contracted with mounting these solar panels, Engr Samuel remarked the drive as championed by his Excellency Sen Prince Bassey Otu under the Chairman of the Green Economy Commission is the right step in the right direction because across the globe, there is a strong advocacy for cleaner energy to mitigate the impending effect of climate change.
