Homicide investigation underway after missing elderly man found dead with sharp force injury of neck

MERCER ISLAND, Wash. (TCD) — An elderly man who disappeared last month has reportedly been found dead from suspected homicide.

Mercer Island Police and the Washington State Patrol issued a missing person bulletin for 74-year-old Curtis Engeland, who was last seen on Feb. 23, at around 6:30 a.m., in the 3000 block of 62nd Avenue Southeast. Engeland’s roommate reported him missing on Saturday, Feb. 24, and said he was “acting outside of his normal routine.”

According to KIRO-TV, Engeland’s body was found in Cosmopolis, Grays Harbor County. In a list of decedents posted March 11, the King County Medical Examiner’s Office said Engeland died due to sharp force injury of the neck, and his death was ruled a homicide.

A neighbor told KIRO that Engeland was a devoted hiker and gardener.
