Ibeto community, known as the hometown of a former Deputy Governor of Niger State, has issued a desperate public appeal for financial contributions to meet ransom demands and secure the release of its abducted residents.
The appeal comes amid a surge of violence and kidnappings that has severely impacted parts of Niger State, including the Magama and Borgu Local Government Areas.
The plea was necessitated by a recent raid in the Ibeto community (Magama LGA), during which suspected bandits killed at least four people and abducted nine others.
In a letter urging collective support, the community made an emotional call to action. “Let’s unite to support our abducted brothers and sisters. we need to contribute financially for their ransoms,” the letter, seen by SaharaReporters, read. “Every naira counts, and I’m calling on each and every one of you to donate generously.”
The community further stressed the importance of solidarity in the face of the crisis. “Let’s unite as a community and show our love and support for our brothers and sisters. Your contributions, big or small, will go a long way in helping us bring them home,” the letter stated. “Together, we can overcome this challenge and bring our brothers and sisters home. Let’s work hand in hand to make this happen. Fisabilillah.”
The escalating insecurity in the region was further highlighted on November 4, 2025, when the convoy of the federal lawmaker representing the Borgu/Agwara Federal Constituency was ambushed by suspected terrorists on the Babanna-road in Borgu LGA. The attack, which occurred at Audu-Fari village, resulted in the death of an unspecified number of soldiers and left several security personnel and civilians wounded. The lawmaker was rescued unharmed by a joint security team.
The Ibeto community concluded its appeal by thanking potential donors in advance and urging prompt mobilization to secure the freedom of the abducted members, repeating the urgent plea: “Every contributions counts. Let’s bring them home safely. Let’s bring them home safely. Let’s bring them home safely.”
