Homelander and Ferra's gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat 1

Homelander and Ferra’s Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay trailer has been released. This is our first look at how Homelander plays as a character and how Ferra functions as a Kameo.

The guest from The Boys series is slated to be released starting on June 4, 2024 thanks to the early access perk of the Kombat Pack. Ferra will be available at an undisclosed later date, sometime in June.

As expected, Homelander’s playstyle is fairly similar to Superman’s for the Injustice series. Unlike Omni-Man, Homelander controls quite a bit of screen space using his heat vision.

Zoning and evading Homelander’s lasers will prove to be difficult since he’s quite versatile in how he can deploy them. Needless to say, Homelander looks like he’ll be quite a powerful zoning character upon his release.

One version of his heat vision has him ducking, causing him to evade high projectiles. This is similar to how Liu Kang’s low fireball gives him an edge against others in zoning wars.

Don’t think that you’ll just simply be able to jump over these lasers to get to Homelander. We also see that he’s able to use an air version, giving him an impressive amount of control of airspace.

He’s also shown to be very mobile thanks to his ability to fly. For short periods of time, Homelander can be commanded to hover around the screen, freely moving around as the player sees fit.

Of course, it’s also important to not get too impatient when fighting Homelander since he also apparently has a counter. Overall, Homelander looks like a very tricky and mobile zoning character that will be difficult to lock down.

Unfortunately, we still don’t know who Homelander’s voice actor is. Though many wanted Antony Starr to reprise his role as Homelander from The Boys in Mortal Kombat 1, we can deduce that this isn’t the case since NetherRealm Studios were quick to reveal that J.K. Simmons and John Cena would be reprising their roles as Omni-Man and Peacemaker respectively.

As for Ferra, she’s definitely a peculiar Kameo within Mortal Kombat 1. Since Torr is apparently no longer around, Ferra can now be commanded to ride the point character.

Once this is done, Ferra can do a variety of things. For one, she can apparently command the point character to do a quick back dash. If this can be done to interrupt actions, then Ferra already looks like she’ll be a powerful Kameo.

Similarly, the mounted fighter can also be ordered to perform a short hop. In the trailer, it’s demonstrated that a fighter can jump over certain low attacks like Liu Kang’s low fireball if done with careful timing.

Ferra can even stab the player’s character while riding them. After this, the player character begins glowing.

If this works anything like it does in Mortal Kombat X, then it means that Ferra is giving the combatant a damage buff for a temporary duration. Of course, it’s important to note that this action does have a health cost associated with it.

Finally, the player can throw Ferra off of them, using Ferra as either a low attack or an overhead. After doing this, Ferra will have to be ordered to ride the character again before they’ll be able to use her attacks again.
