With high school football coming to a close over the weekend, the local high school sports scene shifts to basketball and soccer.
Basketball is in its preseason holiday tournament cycle, highlighted this week by the Chico High School Boys Tournament and the Red Bluff Holiday Tournament.
But before the Panther tournament can tip-off, the boys basketball schedule starts early on Monday as Live Oak will play at Los Molinos and Paradise will travel to Oroville. Tuesday’s action has Chico hosting River Valley, Red Bluff traveling to Orland, Gridley playing at Live Oak, and Biggs hosting Willows.
Also, on Tuesday, Anderson is at Corning.
On Thursday, Pleasant Valley opens the Red Bluff tournament against Weed at 2:30, while Red Bluff will host West Park at 8:30. Chico High will host Oroville to open play in its tournament, with tip-off at 6. Orland will open play in the Anderson Tourney as will Durham and Paradise.
Corning starts play in the Colusa tournament on Thursday. Biggs will play Redding Christian in the East Nicholas tournament. Gridley is also playing at the Colusa Tournament.
Girls basketball
The girls basketball schedule starts off with Paradise at Oroville on Monday and Los Molinos at Live Oak. Tuesday’s action is led off by Pleasant Valley traveling to Whitney, Biggs hosting Willows, and Anderson traveling to Corning and Live Oak at Gridley. University Prep is in Oroville to play Las Plumas.
On Wednesday, Corning starts play in the Red Bluff tournament against University Prep. The only other Wednesday action is Hayfork at Core Butte and Maxwell at Paradise Adventist Academy.
On Thursday, Red Bluff opens play in its own tournament. Pleasant Valley is at the Monterey Trail Tournament, and Chico is at the Sutter tournament. Las Plumas plays in the Orland tournament. Paradise is at Lindhurst.
Girls soccer
On Monday, Willows travels to Anderson, while Orland will host West Valley. On Tuesday, Corning plays at University Prep, Live Oak at River Valley, Colusa at Hamilton and Gridley at Yuba City. On Wednesday, Gridley travels to Colusa and Yreka plays at Los Molinos.
On Thursday, Pleasant Valley highlights the action with its first home game of the year, hosting Las Plumas. On Friday, Corning is at Red Bluff, Oroville is at Los Molinos, Core Butte visits Paradise, and Chico High is at Rocklin.
Boys soccer
Orland kicks off the week with a game at Rodriguez on Monday.
On Tuesday night, Chico High will play host to Lincoln. Corning is at University Prep, Colusa travels to Hamilton, Gridley is at Yuba City and Willows is host to Orland.
On Wednesday, Yreka comes to Los Molinos and Orland plays at Red Bluff.
On Thursday, Los Molinos will host Redding Christian and Gridley will play at Pleasant Valley.
Friday’s action includes Oroville at Lassen, Los Molinos at Paradise and Arlington at Chico. On Saturday, Arlington will play at Pleasant Valley
College men’s basketball
Diablo Valley College travels to Butte on Tuesday with tip off set for 5 p.m. On Thursday, the Roadrunners open play in the Tristan Hill holiday tournament at San Joaquin Delta.
College women’s basketball
The Butte College women start a tournament at Foothill on Tuesday, and then on Thursday, the Roadrunners are at the San Francisco tournament:
