If you’re newer to the fighting game space, then you probably know Justin Wong as one of the stronger content creators we have around right now. However, you might not know exactly why most of us here in the community consider him a legend and one of the greatest of all time (GOAT). You gonna learn today!
JWong has seen A LOT of success in the competitive space over the last couple of decades, and this new highlight reel featuring some of his biggest and best wins at the Evo tournament series show us exactly why that is.
The official Evo YouTube channel put together a best of Justin Wong at Evo highlight reel that zeroes in on seven different historic matches featuring the top level competitor. These matches range from bouts as old as 17 years ago, while others showcase more recent victories.
When it comes to historic wins for Justin Wong, there might not be any quite as legendary and iconic as his big Marvel vs. Capcom 2 comeback against none other than fellow FGC legend, IFC Yipes. The two clashed in the fast-paced crossover title at Evo 2007, and one match in particular saw Justin’s solo Cyclops going up against Yipes’ full and healthy team.
What makes this victory so incredible is not only the fact that they were playing on the Evo main stage (and the pressure that comes with that), but Justin essentially pulled off the unthinkable and reverse 3-0’d Yipes’ team with slippery movement, exceptional decision making, and top tier match up knowledge.
The highlight reel also features a blast from my own past (09-er here) in the big bout between Daigo Umehara and Justin Wong in vanilla Street Fighter 4 back in 2009. Back then, Justin made a switch from Abel to Balrog after Daigo shut down the former convincingly in the first game, and from there, he was able to fight back with exceptional footsies and pressure to take the victory.
There are several other great matches to behold here, so be sure to check out the full Justin Wong highlight reel below.
