Fighting game fans found themselves in for another big surprise this past week with the announcement of the Capcom Fighting Collection 2, which can be seen in the wild reactions to the trailer.
It also of course provided a look at the cover art / key visual for the compilation of classic fighting games, but it didn’t offer the full picture.
Now, however, we have a few different versions of the complete piece of art from the legendary Shinkiro to take a gander at.
Compared to the smaller version of the cover that shows Ryu, Terry Bogard, Chun-Li, Mai Shiranui, Batsu and Ingrid, the full work expands the image to the left, upwards and downwards.
Plus if you look closely, you can see Pete behind Ingrid too.
Initially cut off on the left-hand side, Edward Falcon as well as Julia Whitepearl from Power Stone make their appearance as well as June Lin Milliam from the Star Wars-themed Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein.
Strangely, that’s all of the additional characters, which leaves it feeling a bit empty, especially around the top, next to what they just did by stuffing fighters into the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection key art this year.
At the bottom, all we can see are Mai and Chun’s legs plus the main heroes’ torsos some more.
And you’re not crazy, Ingrid’s art does look very close to Shinkiro’s portrait for her in Capcom Fighting Evolution, but it is not the same.
Shinkiro is of course the best person for the job to put this piece together, however, considering he started at SNK working on Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting and The King of Fighters before jumping ship to Capcom around 2000 where he remains having recently made some new works for Terry in Street Fighter 6.
It just would have been cool to see him go absolutely nuts with character inclusions here too.
Unfortunately, the Director and Designer who worked on many of the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 titles including Capcom vs. SNK, Power Stone and Project Justice, Hideaki Itsuno, announced he’ll be leaving Capcom after 30 years.
The Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is set to contain eight classic titles and is currently in development for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC with a 2025 release window.
You can check out two versions of the complete Capcom Fighting Collection 2 key art below. The second is larger from the official Capcom artwork X/Twitter page, but it also includes their watermark at the bottom.
Plus, we’ve thrown in Shinkiro’s new Terry art for SF6 for good measure too.
