The highly anticipated Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics officially dropped on Thursday and now huge swaths of the fighting game community are submersed in nostalgia, but there’s even more to these old titles than initially meets the eye.
Back before the days of DLC developers commonly slipped hidden characters into fighting games, and these early titles are no exception. The MvC Collection does allow for relatively easy access to hidden characters, but you still need to know where to look once you’ve turned this feature on. Acid Glow has a helpful video out that shows you not only how to access each and every hidden fighter, but also how to use their alternate colors.
First and foremost, for each of the six fighting games in the Collection you’ll want to go into the options menu, find “EX Settings,” and be sure to turn the “Secret Character” option to “Easy Select.”
Traditionally you’d need to meet certain requirements or enter hidden codes on character select screens to unlock these secret fighters, but this feature does the bulk of the work for you.
Once Easy Select has been activated, you’ll still need to find the hidden characters by navigating to secret spaces on respective character select screens.
Acid Glow takes us through how to do this for each of the games, some of which require extra steps. In Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, for example, you have to be playing the Japanese version of the game (there’s an option Acid Glow shows us how to toggle) to access the famous Norimaru.
Some games have many more secret options than others, sometimes offering fully distinct fighters and sometimes just color swap variations with slight changes to gameplay abilities. In any case, Acid Glow takes us through all of it in the full video below. You may want to bookmark this one so you can quickly refer to unlock sequences later on.
