Here's chapter 1 of Tekken 8's cinematic Story Mode

Tekken 7 took a shot at trying to do a big cinematic Story Mode with very mixed results, but the new game is attempting to up the stakes for fans to enjoy.

Coming out of all this new Tekken 8 preview coverage, One More Game was able to show off chapter 1 of the title’s Story Mode without any commentary over the cinematics and gameplay.

Things start out getting right to the action six months after the death of Heihachi at the end of Tekken 7’s story with Lars and Lee preparing an assault on Kazuya’s combined forces while Jin Kazama tracks down his father in the city.

After a brief and not so touching family reunion, the initial cutscene transitions almost seamlessly into the first fight between the holders of the Devil Gene as the stage starts to explode around them from the ongoing battle.

Interestingly, it seems the Story Mode fights will have some quick time events to break up the action with time-sensitive prompts popping up giving players the apparent choice to either dodge Kazuya’s punch or punish it.

We’re treated to some pretty badass shots of Devil Jin shoving Kazuya through literal buildings before getting a fight of the demons with the father permanently in his Devil state too.

Following the battle, Kazuya broadcasts a proclamation to the world. Humanity has forgotten how to fight.

So what does he do? Announce a new King of Iron Fist tournament with a challenge to the strongest martial artists under the threat of losers having their entire countries wiped out.

We don’t know how many chapters / how long the Story Mode is going to end up being, but perhaps we’ll learn more about that at the special premiere event for Tekken 8 this week.
