In most fighting games, the taunt typically behaves as a rather useless action, but it can sometimes have a powerful mental aspect against certain opponents. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it seems like Street Fighter 6’s taunts are just about as functional as they’ve been in every other Street Fighter title, sans Street Fighter 3 where taunts applied buffs and other benefits upon usage.
Despite taunts being mostly functional useless in Street Fighter 6 (so far that we’ve seen), the developers are apparently giving every fighter three taunts. Thanks to a video uploaded by b_HAUNT, we can see what type of taunts are produced by Ryu, Luke, Chun-Li and Jamie.
As previously demonstrated by Capcom, Luke has a taunt where he specifically mocks Shoto characters (such as Ryu) by performing an exaggerated Hadoken, the projectile of choice for Shotos in Street Fighter. Of course, since Luke hasn’t actually studied the style of Ansatsuken (or even the version that’s been neutered of assassin techniques that’s taught by Gouken), he doesn’t actually throw a fireball when performing the mocking gesture.
Unfortunately (and understandably so), this isn’t a character specific taunt for Luke. As seen in b_HAUNT’s video, Luke will even perform this action against Chun-Li. Still, it kind of makes sense for Luke to mock the iconic Shoto technique since it’s believed that he’s basically the “protagonist” of Street Fighter 6.
As for Jamie, he can be seen performing a variation of his win animation by falling to the ground. He also has an extremely long dance animation that will likely never fully go off during a real match. It’s very likely that it will be possible to cancel taunts just like in Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter 5.
