We recently took notice of HelloMissLadyy’s Cammy cosplay. On her Instagram page, she takes on a number of different poses and fighting stances that really show off the curves of the costume.
Of course, it can be easy to see why Cammy is often chosen to depict by cosplayers. Since her debut in Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers back when it was released back in 1993 in the arcades and 1994 on the home consoles, she’s become one of the most iconic characters of the Street Fighter series.
It should be mentioned that, out of the “new challengers” of that game, only Cammy has appeared all throughout Street Fighter 4, Street Fighter 5, and Street Fighter 6. Dee Jay, T. Hawk, and Fei Long don’t have quite as many appearances as Cammy.
The Street Fighter Alpha series revealed to us that Cammy was once known as Killer Bee, an assassin working for Shadaloo. She was intended to fulfill this role until M. Bison’s Psycho Powers became too powerful for his body, in which case Cammy would become M. Bison’s replacement body.
During her time as Killer Bee, Cammy operated in a light blue thong leotard with a small yellow tie, a garrison cap, brown boots, and red gauntlets. Even after Cammy broke free from Shadaloo, she seemingly retained her preference for thong leotards.
In most of her appearances, Cammy instead dons a green thong leotard, a Delta Red triangle insignia, a red beret, red socks, black combat boots, and red gauntlets. The main difference between her Street Fighter 2 incarnation and her Street Fighter 5 incarnation is the presence of either camouflaged paint or harnesses.
Supposedly, Cammy’s preference for the thong leotard is due to the optimal speed, mobility, and flexibility that it allows. However, Cammy’s speedy attributes still appear to be intact in Street Fighter 6 after she was redesigned to be without a leotard, implying that there could be other reasons for this choice of attire.
Either way, Cammy has always been known to be one of the speedier rush down characters throughout the Street Fighter series. In addition to just have fast walk speed, her dive kick and Hooligan Combination mobility options make her particularly difficult to keep out.
Ultimately though, it would appear that HelloMissLadyy’s portrayal of Cammy is based on her Street Fighter 5 design. Though she appears to be armed with a gun holster wrapped around her right thigh, Cammy isn’t actually known to ever draw a weapon or even use projectiles.
Notably, Cammy’s Street Fighter 5 design that features harnesses, straps, and a gun holster was one of the earlier designs for Cammy in Street Fighter 2 before it got scrapped. It’s interesting to note how Capcom would eventually come back to this design many years later.
