Department/Division/Unit: Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Job Objective/Purpose:

The Head of Department (HOD) – Obstetrics & Gynaecology will be responsible for coordinating and managing the hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynaecology department while ensuring high standards of care are met.

Reporting Relationships:

  • Functionally Reports To: Chief Operating Officer
  • Administratively Reports To: Chief Operating Officer
  • Supervises: Consultant Obstetricians & Gynaecologists

Working Relationships:

  • Internal: Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, other consultants, medical officers, directors, and nursing staff
  • External: Clients, patients, parents, and patient relatives

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and develop the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department.
  • Supervise and support the team of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, ensuring patient care is optimal and aligned with clinical guidelines.
  • Manage duty schedules for Obstetricians & Gynaecologists.
  • Foster collaboration between departments.
  • Participate in recruitment, orientation, and training of new staff.
  • Lead department meetings and ensure achievement of departmental targets.
  • Provide direct care for obstetrics and gynaecology cases and oversee high-risk deliveries.
  • Conduct ward rounds and specialist outpatient clinics.
  • Case reporting and documentation.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Education: MBBS or its equivalent
  • Professional Training: Residency in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from a recognized institution
  • Licensing: Valid medical practice license
  • Professional Qualification: Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College in Obstetrics & Gynaecology or its equivalent

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years post-residency experience is required.

Work Cycle (Hours/Days):

  • Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Saturdays: As per department’s duty schedule
  • Call duty and weekend coverage as per the department’s rotation.
