Department/Division/Unit: Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Job Objective/Purpose:
The Head of Department (HOD) – Obstetrics & Gynaecology will be responsible for coordinating and managing the hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynaecology department while ensuring high standards of care are met.
Reporting Relationships:
- Functionally Reports To: Chief Operating Officer
- Administratively Reports To: Chief Operating Officer
- Supervises: Consultant Obstetricians & Gynaecologists
Working Relationships:
- Internal: Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, other consultants, medical officers, directors, and nursing staff
- External: Clients, patients, parents, and patient relatives
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and develop the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department.
- Supervise and support the team of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, ensuring patient care is optimal and aligned with clinical guidelines.
- Manage duty schedules for Obstetricians & Gynaecologists.
- Foster collaboration between departments.
- Participate in recruitment, orientation, and training of new staff.
- Lead department meetings and ensure achievement of departmental targets.
- Provide direct care for obstetrics and gynaecology cases and oversee high-risk deliveries.
- Conduct ward rounds and specialist outpatient clinics.
- Case reporting and documentation.
Education and Qualifications:
- Education: MBBS or its equivalent
- Professional Training: Residency in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from a recognized institution
- Licensing: Valid medical practice license
- Professional Qualification: Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College in Obstetrics & Gynaecology or its equivalent
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years post-residency experience is required.

Work Cycle (Hours/Days):
- Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM
- Saturdays: As per department’s duty schedule
- Call duty and weekend coverage as per the department’s rotation.
