‘He has been fantastic’ – Wayne Rooney heaps praise on Manchester United ace

Manchester United secured a 3-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday night.

Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund ended their goal droughts before Bruno Fernandes sealed the win late on.

It was a much needed win, considering Leicester’s current struggles under Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Moreso, considering United’s own problems.

The win against Leicester certainly takes off a little pressure from Ruben Amorim’s shoulders.

Albeit the Red Devils are still sat in bottom half of the Premier League.

Chances of finishing in the European spots still very much look unlikely.

Ruben Amorim handed a full Premier League debut to Ayden Heaven who had impressed in the Europa League clash with Real Sociedad.

He slotted into a back-three alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Victor Lindelof.

The teenager put in an assured display before suffering an injury early in the second half.

Heaven needed medical attention before being stretchered off and was seen leaving the stadium in a protective boot.

His performance, however, earned widespread praise, with Wayne Rooney particularly impressed by the youngster’s composure and maturity.

Wayne Rooney waxes lyrical over Ayden Heaven’s performance

Speaking on Match of the Day, the former Manchester United captain shared his admiration for how the debutant handled the pressure of playing for a club of United’s stature.

“Obviously, it is a huge football club, but at this time now where it is not maybe going right.

“To come in and play for Manchester United at 18, it is a lot of pressure,” Rooney said.

“Those expectations are on you from the first minute.

“But I think in the games he [Ayden Heaven] has played, I think he has been fantastic.

“I came in as an 18-year-old at Manchester United and you do feel that pressure.

“But to come in as a centre-back, which is a position where you cannot afford to make mistakes as you get punished, it is very difficult.

“But he looks like he has been there for years – and that is the biggest compliment I can give him.”

The former United forward also hailed the defender’s move from Arsenal as a “coup”, noting that his prior experience at a top club would have helped him adjust quickly.

“He doesn’t look like he is playing with pressure, he looks calm, he’s composed.

“He gives them good balance with his left foot, he looks quick and he looks like he likes defending.

“I think he is a real coup for Manchester United.”
