You wouldn’t mind playing such a huge role as a teen, isn’t it? The 18-year-old is beginning to make a mark in José Mourinho’s era as his last gasping strike seal a remarkable 3 points for the Red Devils.

Rashford, introduced with 19 minutes to go, tapped home from close range in the 92nd minute after Wayne Rooney had kept the ball in play on the byline and crossed into the centre.

Rashford did not play a minute in United’s opening two Premier League wins this season and was dropped down to England’s Under-21s this week ahead of Sam Allardyce naming the first senior squad of his tenure.

United and Chelsea are now the only Premier League sides with a 100% record from three games, with Manchester City – who have two wins from two games – playing West Ham on Sunday.

United had placed the Tigers, who had won their opening two fixtures, under immense pressure but valiant defending, with Curtis Davies and goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic to the fore, had kept them at bay for most of the match.

The excellent Curtis Davies blocked the more direct route to goal after the break, but the guile of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and the pace of fellow substitute Rashford stretched the Hull defence in different directions and, finally, beyond breaking point.

But it was a deserved win for United, who had gone close though Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba.
