Manchester United drew 0-0 with Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday.
There was enormous pressure on Erik ten Hag ahead of kickoff, with the United manager looking vulnerable after a poor week and with the international break looming.
But a point at Villa Park won’t hurt him, with United looking much more compact than in recent games.
Despite that, he can’t avoid the fact that this is United’s worst ever start to a Premier League season.
They face Brentford at Old Trafford when the Premier League returns. Another huge game for the Dutch manager.
Harry Maguire injury update
At the halfway mark of the game, Harry Maguire suffered an injury and was forced off the pitch.
He walked off very gingerly, assisted by the medical staff.
Mike McGrath of The Telegraph reported that Maguire was seen leaving Villa Park in a protective plastic boot.
Although the severity of the injury is still unclear, wearing a plastic boot is usually a concerning sign, suggesting that it might be a serious issue.
In a post-match interview, when Erik ten Hag was asked about Maguire’s injury, the Dutchman responded: “He didn’t feel well after half-time, so I had to take him off.”
There wasn’t much clarification from Ten Hag, and it seems we’ll have to wait until tomorrow or the day after to get a full update on the extent of Maguire’s injury.
This is a significant setback for Ten Hag, who is now left with only two fit right-footed center-backs: Matthijs de Ligt and Victor Lindelof.
