The latest Street Fighter 6 balance update is in full effect, and after almost a week of digging into it it’s looking like players are starting to digest these changes and understand what many of them mean in the grand scheme of things. Every character on the current playable roster received changes with this update, and there were even some fighters who got things on the Modern Controls end of things.
Some believe that one of the biggest winners of this latest update may have actually been Modern Chun-Li thanks to her being given the ability to cancel into all of her stance moves now with this control type. On that note, fighting game veteran and top player Haitani has released a new tier list that focuses on the roster when Modern Controls are selected, ranking everyone based on how powerful (or not) they are with the simplified inputs.
As always, this tier list is organized into several letter grades that signify strength and rank. This time, we only see four categories listed that include S (the best), A, B, and C (the worst).
Thanks to the efforts of our very own Nicholas “MajinTenshinhan” Taylor, we have the full English translation of Haitani’s notes about this Modern tier list. Here is what Haitani wrote.
“Sometimes I get asked when streaming which characters are suited for Modern so I made a chart.
– They can deal a lot of damage with their combos
– Their important moves for checking, combo routes, overheads and such are intact
– They have specials for anti-airing or going through fireballs
– Their SA can be used to go through fireballs or to interrupt pressure and aren’t charge
Are the basic points of value”
Haitani also added a brief note about beginner level players and Modern Controls. He noted that Modern characters that are strong for beginners are different from this list in that what makes them particularly good for that skill level is their assist combos and not the aforementioned traits.
“Good characters for beginners in Modern is different, in that situation it’s more about their assist combos and target combos being good,” Haitani said. “So characters like Blanka, Marisa, Cammy, Luke.”
As far as placements go, Haitani lists several of the fighters you might expect to be the best in the game with Modern Controls up in S rank. Luke, Zangief, E. Honda, and Lily make up the top 4, which isn’t surprising, but Rashid making it to #5 is certainly interesting given how technical of a fighter he tends to be.
Even with her new buffs, it seems that Haitani puts Chun-Li at #7 overall, though she is still sitting in S rank meaning she’s very good with Modern Controls.
