Gunmen attack Obosi Police Station, kill two officers, free detainees in Anambra

Gunmen have reportedly attacked Obosi Police Station in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Wednesday night, killing two Police officers while freeing all detainees in the cell.

THE PARADISE NEWS learned that the attack happened barely 24 hours after the newly posted Commissioner of Police to the State, CP Christopher Adetokumbo Owolabi assumed office.

A source within the affected Police Station confided on Journalists that the gunmen in their large number had stormed and attacked the station at about 11pm to 12am last night, leaving two police Inspectors, (James and Awalu) dead while all the suspects in the cell were freed before razing down the police station.

It was further gathered that the victims were killed inside a non-functional filling station close to the police station when the murdered officers were trying to repeal the unknown gunmen from gaining entrance to the Station.

The source continues that when other police officers on duty had noticed an unusual movement of the unknown gunmen, the officers, it was learned, took to their heels while the daredevils had free time in burning down the police station.

When contacted, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, via telephone chat, while confirming the incident said the Commissioner of Police, CP Owolabi, has sent an investigative team to the scene of the incident to unravel the circumstances behind the attack and to get the perpetrators arrested.
