Gunfire Incidents in Capitol Hill Lead to Double Shooting

The Seattle Police Department reported that 911 received calls about gunfire in the 1400 block of 11th Avenue just before 2:15 a.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 25-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg. She was promptly transported to a hospital, where she is currently in serious but stable condition.

This incident occurred at a memorial site for another victim, a 25-year-old woman who was fatally shot in Capitol Hill just hours earlier. Police are investigating the double shooting that took place overnight at the memorial dedicated to her.

Shortly after the initial shooting, a 29-year-old man arrived at Harborview Medical Center with a gunshot wound, claiming he was injured at the same location as the woman. Witnesses reported to police that multiple suspects fired shots before fleeing the scene in vehicles. As of now, no suspects have been identified or apprehended.

The memorial site marks the spot where the young woman was shot and killed just after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday. The circumstances surrounding that shooting remain unclear, and the investigation is ongoing with no information available regarding a suspect. Officers searched the area with the assistance of King County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, but no suspects were located. No suspects or suspect vehicles have been identified.

Seattle police’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit is working to determine the circumstances that led up to the shooting. Community members and local organizations may also be mobilizing one again to respond to the violence in Seattle –  emphasizing the need for supportive measures to address the roots of gun violence and to provide resources for those affected. This could include counseling services, community safety initiatives, and discussions on how to prevent future tragedies.
