Up until just a few years ago, the Guilty Gear franchise remained something of a smaller niche in the fighting game community that continued to slowly grow in popularity, but that’s changed now.

Arc System Works announced at Evo 2022 that Guilty Gear Strive has now reached 1 million copies sold worldwide, which is a feat that no other title in the series has reached before.

“So Guilty Gear Strive was released in June 2021, and it’s been a year,” said Strive Producer Ken Miyauchi on the Evo stage. “And I’d like to say thank you to all of the players, fans, tournament organizers, and everyone in the FGC for such an awesome and enthusiastic support.

Because of all your support, just a few days ago Strive reached 1 million unit sales so thank you.”

To help celebrate the occasion and Guilty Gear’s first time ever headlining Evo, ArcSys teamed up with animation studio Sanjigen Co. to create a special music video recapping some of the main story’s events through Sol Badguy’s perspective.

This big step solidifies ArcSys among the top dogs in the industry alongside other developers like Capcom, Bandai Namco and NetherRealm Studios after spending decades of carving out and building their audience.

The company’s stock in the industry rapidly grew over the past generation due to their great guns for hire work on games like Dragon Ball FighterZ and Granblue Fantasy: Versus for other publishers, but now their own titles can stand right up there too.

It’s unknown how many copies Guilty Gear Xrd and its Revelator expansions sold over its lifetime although using VGChartz and Steam Spy, we can gauge Strive’s predecessor reached at least 500,000 copies sold worldwide.

On top of the monumental sales, Strive has also been the consistently largest traditional fighting game at major events since its release.

Evo 2022 was no exception where over 2,100 players from around the globe signed up to compete in what was likely the largest offline bracket the series has ever seen too.

With Bridget now available and crossplay coming later this year, Guilty Gear Strive shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
