December 24, 2024 MANHATTAN, New York – Guardian Angels seen patrolling NYC transit system following the arson attack of sleeping woman who was killed after being set on fire in a horrific subway murder.
Curtis Sliwa, the head of the Guardian Angels, took to the streets of New York City on a chilly Christmas Eve with several of his dedicated members on a mission of safety during this holiday season.
We followed the crime deterrent unit on a safety walk as Sliwa emphasized the importance of police presence in light of recent transit incidents, including the most recent shocking crime where a man lit a woman on fire inside a train car during an early morning attack. “A lot of women are scared out of their mind due to the recent occurrence,” Sliwa remarked, understanding the need for community support.
Sliwa noted the lack of police presence in some train stations, he and his team only noticed two police officers standing by the turnstiles and on their phones at one transit hub they visited.
As the Guardian Angels walked by the NYPD officers, the members of service acknowledged the angels and commented, “Thank you for being out here.”
It was clear that New Yorkers riding public transit were appreciative of the Guardian Angels presence in the transit system.
Founded in 1979, with their iconic red berets and jackets the Guardian Angels have become a symbol of community vigilance in response to rising crime in the city.
Sliwa, who made a run for mayor back in 2021 may not have won the election, but his influence remains strong.
