And following its session on August 26-27, the Greek Holy Synod stated:
On the occasion of the opening ceremony of the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris, the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece expressed its opposition to the unprecedented events observed.
The International Olympic Committee has established a strict protocol regarding the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, part of which is the artistic program, through which each host country attempts to showcase its history and culture to the rest of the world.
In the artistic program of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, and in the name of impressiveness, “inclusion” and “rights activism,” there were scenes mocking mainly Christian religious symbols and figures, thus offending the religious sentiment and faith of billions of people.
The Holy Synod emphatically stresses the duty of all to honor and respect the symbols of all religions without exception, in order to avoid similar sad phenomena in the future.
The Holy Synod also congratulated the Greek Olympians and wished strength and success to those who will participate in the upcoming Paralympic Games.
