The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has said that his policies in the aviation sector will yield results.
Keyamo said this on Tuesday in a post shared on his social media page to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebration.
The minister said, “In the aviation sector, we have taken a bold policy decision and soon, we shall all reap the fruit of our hope, hard work and optimism.”
One of the benefits that the minister said Nigerians will enjoy is the resumption of Emirates flights to Nigeria.
Recall that Keyamo was in the UAE with his technical team for the negotiation of a new Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) between both countries.
According to the minister, the BASA would guide the countries in flights operations.
“We firmly agreed on the reciprocal rights our local airlines will also have to begin flight operations to the UAE,” Keyamo said.
As part of the reforms, Keyamo reiterated the government’s focus in expanding local airline capacity and ensuring Nigerian carriers benefit from the market.
He said, “Geographically, Nigeria is in the best position to serve as the true aviation hub for Africa.
“If you examine the map, we are equidistant to key regions like South America, Europe, and Asia.
“Regarding flight hours, we are about six to seven hours from Doha, Dubai, and Brazil. Our strategic location and growing population position us perfectly to be the hub Africa needs.”
