JUBA – South Sudan’s Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony on Thursday issued gubernatorial order forming a committee to investigate the recent killing of 3 civilians and a soldier in Kiri Boma of Kajo-Keji County.

In a decree read extended to Sudans Post on Thursday, Governor Emmanuel formed a 5-member committee headed by State Minister of Peace Building, Francis Gerald.

The committee also includes senior government officials and members of state security agencies.

On 26 May, three young men were allegedly shot dead by SSPDF soldiers at Kiri village of Kajo-Keji County while three others were taken and detained by members of the South Sudan army.

The gruesome killing of the teenagers occurred after the SSPDF soldiers found one of their colleagues dead in one of the Kajo-Keji villages under unclear circumstances.

The officers who are believed to have been irked by the death of their own colleague went on a shooting spree killing three young men and arresting villagers including relatives of the deceased civilians.

The committee has been tasked to independently launch comprehensive investigations into the circumstances leading killing of civilians and SSPDF soldier.

“To clearly find out the arrest of civilians by the SSPDF after the most unfortunate incident which occurred on the 26th May 2022 and to identify the victims and families of the three Civilians who were cruelly murdered,” part of the decree read.

The committee is expected to submit its findings to Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony within seven working days from the date of its commencement.
