David Ornstein reports for The Athletic that with Marcus Thuram approaching the final 12 months of his contract, Borussia Monchengladbach are looking to sell him for £10-15m this summer.
Thuram’s contract expires in 2023, so it’s that or they lose him on a free transfer the next year.
The direct relevance to Arsenal is that Ornstein reports the Gunners are thought to have previously considered Thuram as a signing.
We know Arsenal are in the market for a couple of strikers this summer, so perhaps they could move for Thuram as one of the two.
But even if Arsenal don’t pursue the 24-year-old, the indirect impact of Thuram’s likely departure is that Gladbach will be in the market for a striker.
The Bundesliga side have been repeatedly linked with Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah, with new reports as recently as this week suggesting they’re still after him.
With Nketiah’s recent performances, Arsenal’s interest in keeping the young striker around has seemingly increased. But that’s going to be harder to do with Gladbach offering a clear route to regular minutes.
So whether he joins Arsenal or not, Thuram’s future is likely to have some impact on the Gunners.
