GGAI rallies support for Nigeria’s new defence minister

The Good Governance Advocacy International (GGAI) has called on Nigerians to back the new Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retired). The advocacy group asserted that his leadership would bolster the nation’s security architecture, provided that citizens and all governmental tiers fulfill their respective duties.

Leonard Anyogo, the Director-General of GGAI, praised President Bola Tinubu for making what he described as “an appointment that resonates with the Nigerian populace.” Anyogo highlighted the Minister’s distinguished career as a former Chief of Defence Staff, noting that his service has earned him “nationwide respect, credibility and integrity,” which demonstrates his capacity to effectively steer the defence sector.

Anyogo stressed that enhanced national security is a collective responsibility, calling on communities, citizens, and local, state, and federal authorities to commit to transparency, fairness, and justice in their operations. He encapsulated this idea by stating: “Security is everybody’s business. Good governance makes it easier for the military to protect us because it guarantees equity and fairness.”

Furthermore, Anyogo appealed to international organizations and foreign partners to lend their support to Nigeria’s efforts to reinforce its security framework, emphasizing that a stable Nigeria is vital for Africa’s overall development. He concluded by insisting that national security starts with “citizen participation and community vigilance.”
