Getting 2nd place at Evo twice or receiving a cake plastered with your losing moment from friends?

There’s always a place for ribbing and messing with your friends in the fighting game community although hopefully you know them well enough to be aware of if they’ll accept the jokes as such.

It’s been just over a week since the FGC crowned a new Street Fighter 6 champion at Evo 2024 with FLY|Punk’s emotional victory, but the course of history almost went a very differently on that finals stage.

Adel “NASR|BigBird” Anouche came within one round of taking the title himself after much hard work, but he’d lose the life lead, all of his momentum and then the tournament following getting hit by an uncontested jump in from Punk’s Cammy.

So how do BigBird’s friends celebrate his second place finish? They get him a custom cake.

It’s not just any cake, however, because EvilYoshi got him one that was plastered with the image of Punk’s jump in and the text “2 times 2ed place” plus a cry laughing emoji as the cherry on top.

Anouche showed off the cake to his friends and fans online in a video / stream where he appears to take the joke in stride though there is obviously a bit of the feeling of pouring some more salt in a fresh wound too.

“He got me a cake right? It’s nice and all,” said BigBird. “It’s very thoughtful of him right? But look at this. You see the moment where it all went wrong… Nah, I’m not eating this cake bro you can take it.”

The two-time Evo runner-up followed that up with a post with a better picture of the whole cake and asking anyone to take it out of his sight.

Punk couldn’t help jumping in as well and messing with the close friend he just beat too.

BigBird previously reached grand finals in Street Fighter 5 at Evo 2019 where he ended up falling to the great RB|Bonchan, so this year’s Evo finals had two prior runner-ups facing off since Tokido defeated Punk at Evo 2017.

And only one of them could make it to the summit this time.

Despite the tough loss, BigBird is still poised for a big year in the SF6 competitive scene considering he’s already qualified for the Esports World Cup with a $1 million prize pool and just won the second Capcom Pro Tour World Warrior event for the Middle East too.

But how would you react if your friends presented you with this cake after one of the toughest losses of your career?
