- Under the supervision of the Area Coordinator, the GBV Caseworker will be responsible for providing comprehensive support to survivors of gender-based violence within Konduga, Mashamari Local Government Area of Borno State. The primary objective is to ensure that survivors receive timely, confidential, and culturally appropriate assistance, including psychosocial support, medical care, and legal aid. Additionally, they will work to prevent GBV through community awareness campaigns and capacity-building initiatives.
Main Responsibilities:
Case Management:
- Provide one-on-one case management services to GBV survivors, ensuring confidentiality and a survivor-centred approach.
- Develop individualized care plans based on the needs and goals of survivors.
- Coordinate with healthcare, legal, and other service providers to ensure comprehensive care.
Psychosocial Support:
- Facilitate group PSS sessions for women and girls, using trauma-informed approaches.
- Conduct individual PSS sessions as needed.
- Develop and implement PSS activities that promote mental health and resilience.
Awareness and Advocacy:
- Conduct awareness-raising sessions on GBV prevention and response within the community.
- Advocate for the rights and protection of women and girls.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and confidential case files and records.
- Prepare and submit timely reports on activities and case progress.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with other GBV team members and partners.
- Participate and lead GBV sub sector coordination meetings and trainings as required.
Capacity Building:
- Provide training and capacity-building sessions for local staff and community volunteers on GBV and PSS.
Administrative Functions:
- Asset and Inventory Management: Maintain and manage an inventory of all assets at the Women and Girls Safe Space, ensuring proper use and documentation.
- Supervision of Volunteers: Oversee and coordinate volunteers, ensuring they are effectively integrated into program activities and provided with necessary training and support.
- Other programmatic and administrative responsibilities that may be assigned by the supervisor.
General conduct:
- Maintain a “client-friendly” atmosphere that is non-judgemental and supportive of beneficiaries regardless of their background, with special attention for respect of medical confidentiality.
- Participate in office work with colleagues as a good team player.
- Be an active role model towards the target population, by adhering to a healthy personal behavior and lifestyle.
- Maintain a non-judgmental and supportive attitude towards colleagues and beneficiaries regardless of their background, political affiliation, or religion.
- Take responsibility in representing Malteser International towards the local population, authorities and other (I)NGOs
- Adhere and respect Malteser International guidelines and codes.
- Carry out additional tasks as required by supervisor.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, Knowledge, and Experience
- A minimum of Higher National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies or Social Science related courses
- Experience as a caseworker with a similarly motivated organization.
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word, including Teams and Outlook.
- Excellent knowledge/experience in scanning and filing systems.
- A demonstrated ability to process information into action promptly
- Possess a positive attitude, and demonstrate integrity, confidentiality, approachability and diplomacy.
- Ability to withstand work-related pressure, accurately follow instructions, and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to express oneself through good communication skills: verbal and written
- Fluency in English, Hausa and Kanuri will be advantageous
