Last week, Sir Jim Ratcliffe controversially terminated Sir Alex Ferguson’s contract as a global club ambassador and club director.
Prior to this decision, Sir Alex was receiving a salary of £2.16million a year in his role.
The decision was reportedly communicated to Ferguson amicably.
He will continue at United as a non-executive director and is still welcome to attend games.
Just days after this announcement, the club have handed Gary Neville a new role.

The Sun report that Neville has been working as a freelance ambassador at United.
He is part of the Sir Jim’s stadium taskforce, and will assist the INEOS CEO with his vision to build a ‘Wembley of the North’ for United.
Neville recently performed ambassadorial duties for the club in India.
He appeared at the Minerva academy in Mohali for the Apollo Tyres grassroots football programme.
The 49-year-old represented United as part of the ‘United We Play’ programme.
The company held the event with the aim of cultivating the next generation of football talent in India.
Their stated aims were: ‘to enable our next-generation players to reach their optimum performance by unlocking their potential.’

While Gary Neville has been on freelance ambassador duties, Sir Alex has been banned from entering United’s dressing room.
Neville is one of many club legends that have adopted a similar role after their retirement.
Andy Cole, Park Ji-sung, Dwight Yorke, Denis Irwin and Bryan Robson have all contributed as ambassadors for United.
While Neville’s involvement with the club is not problematic itself, it has certainly come to light in untimely fashion.
