Manchester United’s poor run of form continues as they fall to 14th in the Premier League after a Boxing Day loss to Wolves.
It marked United’s third defeat in a row that started with being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Tottenham in a 4-3 battle.
The loss at the Molineux Stadium was made even worse as United’s captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off for the third time this season, reducing them to ten men.
Next up United will be hoping to finish 2024 with a win as they host Newcastle on Monday 30th December, however with Newcastle going in on the back for four straight victories, form is on The Magpies’ side.
However, Manchester United legend Gary Neville has seen a “massive positive” in the recent poor performances United have displayed.

Gary Neville explains the positive for Ruben Amorim in recent results
Speaking to Sky Sports Neville commented: “I think it’s a massive positive that Ruben Amorim is seeing what he’s got.”
He continued: “In the past, there have been times where you can be kidded into thinking you have got a better group of players, because of decent results and moving up the league. But they are a mile away in every single way.”
Commenting on tactical adjustments that Ruben Amorim will have to make to his 3-4-3 system, Neville explained: “He’s given everyone a try by rotating the team and I do not think there will be many he’s watched and thought, ‘yes, I want you on the bus’.
“They are all very mediocre, and I don’t know how it’s happened – they are better than what they are showing, let’s be clear. But it’s a pattern.”
“They are not good enough to play for Manchester United, because this club aims to be at the top. It’s quite clear.”
It’s clear that there are major issues at the club which will take more than a few star players arriving in January. However, if United can sell some of their more questionable stars and sign some top talent in their place, the odds may be slightly more in Amorim’s favour to turn the club around.
