Gary Neville has claimed United had a better team three years ago under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer than they do now under Amorim.
Speaking on his Sky Sports podcast, Neville said, “It was Wan-Bissaka, Shaw, Lindelof and Maguire – which is a far better backline than one that’s out there now.”
He continued, “It was Matic and McTominay – which is a far better midfield than Casemiro and Eriksen.”
Neville also stated, “Up front was Sancho, Rashford, Bruno and Cristiano – which is again far better than the players out there.”
Neville acknowledged that the Solskjaer team was “widely regarded as being nowhere near good enough.”
However, he still believed it was “far better” than the current team.
The former right-back was quick to point out how the club have already spent £450 million since that period.
Neville criticised the current squad saying, “The (current) team won’t win a lot of football matches.
“It genuinely won’t in this league.
“I was actually excited by the signings in the summer. What’s happened?
“No one was saying in the summer that these signings would make Man United worse.”
Solskjaer spent three years at Manchester United, returning to the club in 2018.
His tenure ended after a 4-1 defeat to Watford in November 2021.
During his time in charge, he led United to finishes of sixth, third and second.
This was also whilst overseeing Cristiano Ronaldo’s return.
Solskjaer was dismissed after a poor start to the 2021/22 season and has not managed a club since.
