Manchester United’s managerial status is in more than a cloud of doubt with ten Hag facing the sack over a terrible season.
England manager is one of the names linked with the job as centredevils covered.
As per a report from The Telegraph, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is more interested in appointing a manager for long term success in the event he decides to sack ten Hag.
What this virtually means is a candidate’s qualifications especially trophies do not matter as he is looking at success from a long term perspective ahead of the start of this new era.
This would greatly favor the Three Lions manager as he is yet to win anything in his managerial career and while still relatively young could be best equipped for long term tenure.
Southgate has been heavily reported as the favorite for the job with even The Daily Star reporting he’s top of the list just a month ago.
His current deal with the England national team runs until December although the FA want to renew it until the 2026 World Cup.
Southgate hinted that he would be willing to stay beyond his contract but he would only be willing to decide on it after the Euros.
Speaking at the last international break, he rubbished links to the United managerial job making it clear it is disrespectful to be linked with a club that already has a sitting manager.
“The second thing is United have a manager. It’s always completely disrespectful when there’s any speculation about a manager that’s in place. I’m president of the LMA (League Managers Association) so I don’t have any time for that sort of thing really,” he stated.
It remains to be seen whether Ratcliffe decides on sacking ten Hag and if so who is the best man for the job.
