Laura Syler is already putting her green thumb to use as she enters the business world with the opening of her shop 3 Notch Home and Garden in Andalusia.

A grand opening will be held on Saturday, March 15 from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. following a soft opening with family and friends earlier this week. Syler and her mother, Lesa Rathel, will serve as co-owners of the business.

“My passion for plants and flowers started when I worked at Andalusia Farmers Cooperative while I was in high school,” Syler said. “Taking horticulture classes at Auburn really extended my love for plants and presented me with the opportunity to learn more about them. My mother and I decided to do 3 Notch Home and Garden as a little plant shop after graduation.”

A 2022 Pleasant Home School alumna, Syler will complete her bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Business and Economics with a minor in Horticulture at Auburn University in May. She will continue working at Andalusia Farmers Cooperative after graduation with a full-time position beginning in June.

She is the founder and treasurer of the Women in Agriculture Student Association, president of the AgriBusiness Club, and the secretary of the College of Agriculture Peer Mentors. She also received the Alabama Farmers Cooperative Future Leaders Scholarship, Auburn University’s College of Agriculture Student Award for the Class of 2025, and was recognized in the Alabama Co-op magazine “Farming News” as an up and coming future leader.

“I am excited to be a local business owner with my mom. The time I spent at the farmer’s co-op in high school is what drew me to this field. I look forward to sharing my love for agriculture and plants with the community around me and hope to grow further in the future,” Syler said.

The 3 Notch Home and Garden entrance features an antique shop with a booth and company named Gather Around the Table. Syler’s mother Lesa will share antique shop duties with Gather Around the Table owners Melissa and David Wilson and Meagan and Oscar Ferut.

“We have all the items in the back part of the shop with some spread over the front as well as some vintage pieces in the garden area. We buy and sell all things vintage,” Melissa said.

Syler added that customers could explore additional areas located outside the antique shop.

“We have a plant bar where you will be able to pick out your plant, pick out your pot, and pot it here before you take it home. We will also have the garden shop, which has shade plants, shrubs, flowers, ferns, and pine straw,” she said.

3 Notch Home and Garden is located in the previous home of Wild Daisy Boutique.

“Mrs. Nikki Guilford expanded her business operations and moved across the road. My mom and I have been good friends with her throughout her journey at Wild Daisy. We learned this location was great for her with all the traffic that comes by, and that makes it a really good spot for people to see,” Syler said.

She expressed her appreciation to several individuals who helped make the business possible.

“I would like to thank the community, my mom, my older sister Gracie Syler, and my grandparents for their continued support. Haden Jackson has also been a huge help and has been here from the very beginning. He has helped with every step of the way,” Syler said.

Located at 1810 East Three Notch St. in Andalusia, 3 Notch Home and Garden will be open from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
