The 66th birthday anniversary of Governor Bassey Edet Otu, witnessed a beehive of activities as individuals and groups celebrated the number one citizen of Cross River state in different ways.
In commemorating the event, FUSION 196, a frontline socio political group, hosted townhall dinner and awards.
According to the Director General and Convener, Mr Joseph Agbor, the 66th birthday of the Governor is a landmark event in the annals of the states history.
Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the occasion, Agbor described the Governor as a man of the people whose policy thrust focused on improving the lives of citizens. He further explained that the decision to take the celebration out of calabar is aimed at giving people who are far from the capital city, an opportunity to also join in the celebration.

“This birthday anniversary is a landmark event. It is not just a birthday but a moment to appreciate a man who has offered himself in service to the people. This year, we decided to do it differently by choosing to celebrate here in Obanliku, and as you can see, the atmosphere is electrifying.
At 66, the governor is fresh, hale and hearty. He is a charismatic leader who has touched the lives of many. He is indeed, a Man of the People.”
During the celebration, there was an official endorsement of the Governor for second term come 2027.
A motion was moved by Hon. Joe Ukata and seconded by Hon. Sylvester Anyawho, receiving resounding applause and affirmation by all present.
An Award of Patron was presented to Ntufam Barr. Fidelis Ugbo for his support to the Cross River project. Ntufam Ugbo, a former Secretary to Cross River State Government and former Secretary of National Economic Planning is currently Chairman of Governing Council, UNICROSS.
High point of the celebration was the symbolic cutting of the birthday anniversary cake.
The Executive Chairman of Obanliku Local Government, Hon. Chief (Dr) Sunday Ayang, JP, who was present, celebrated the governor and commended the group for the initiative, while also pledging his support at all times.
The event which held at SANJI Hotel Obanliku, featured goodwill messages, as stakeholders took turns to pour encomium and eulogies.
