After more than a few decades away from the main series, Animalities are finally coming back in Mortal Kombat 1 and obviously looking better and more brutal than ever.
NetherRealm Studios just revealed one of the new Animality finishers being added with the Khaos Reigns expansion showing one of the ninjas going ape on his opponent.
Although he’s usually one of the most stealthy of the bunch (aside from Reptile), Smoke is the one chosen to go full Unga Bunga here by transforming into a giant gorilla.
After going full Animorph, Smoke is shown charging Scorpion and dragging him by the head before pushing his fingers in the opposing ninja’s mouth, and you can probably imagine what happens next.
Compared to what he used to unleash back when Animalities were introduced in Mortal Kombat 3, Smoke is taking things in a very different direction now, which seems to be a running theme for what we’ve seen so far.
Cyber Smoke would actually become the silhouette of a bull to ram the opponent while human Smoke in Mortal Kombat Trilogy took the form of a deadly porcupine.
Interestingly, there was no gorilla Animality in the klassic versions though Reptile did become a chimpanzee funnily enough that simply chased the opponent off screen without outwardly attacking them.
This new finisher was previously teased in an earlier trailer for Khaos Reigns, but we didn’t know who it was going to belong to at the time.
From what has been confirmed so far, NRS has shown Cyrax as a giant hornet, Geras as a hippo, Havik being a hyena, Kenshi taking the wolf from Nightwolf, Mileena as a mantis, Noob Saibot as a crocodile, Quan Chi becoming a T-Rex skeleton, Rain becomes a pufferfish, Sektor is a rhino, and Scorpion is finally a scorpion instead of Sheeva.
The developers previously released Noob Saibot’s full gameplay trailer, so his Kombat Kast should be coming sometime this week and may include more reveals on that front.
Khaos Reigns’ largest draws are for the new paid content in the new Story Mode plus Cyrax, Sektor and Noob as playable fighters though there’s more NRS is giving to all owners of MK1.
On top of Animalities, new moves, skins, balance changes and modes are coming to the game in general with the latter having been seemingly leaked for game modes.
Mortal Kombat 1 is continuing the trend of bringing back these alternate finishers from the arcade days like Mortal Kombat 9’s Babalities and Friendships returning in Mortal Kombat 11.
Every main character roster is slated to receive an Animality finisher as part of the free update when Khaos Reigns launches next week on September 24 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
