FRSC tells Enugu motorists to drive with common sense

The Enugu command of the FRSC has urged motorists to use their common sense during rainfall.

Sector commander Joseph Toby said motorists would need to apply a great sense of judgment during the rains as the roads would be slippery and visibility would be poor.

He told journalists that motorists should also apply “common sense” on slippery roads, taking their vehicles’ poor visibility and roadworthiness into cognisance.

“Rainy season is the difficult season to ply the roads. Drivers should drive defensively and possibly travel below recommended speed limits,” he stated. “Drivers should not use roads they are unfamiliar with during torrential rains or when the road is flooded.”

Mr Toby urged motorists to ensure that their vehicles were well-maintained and had good tyres that could have a firm grip on the road.

He also advised on having good lights and an effective brake system, just as he stressed the need for drivers and commuters alike to plan their journeys well in advance.

The commander reminded travellers and motorists to plan their journeys on time, embark on the journeys early in the day and avoid night travels.
