From underdogs to bronze medalists: Rivers Hoopers tame Cape Town Tigers to wrap Up historic BAL run

Rivers Hoopers capped off their historic run at the 2024 Basketball Africa League (BAL) with a convincing 80-57 victory over Cape Town Tigers of South Africa in the third-place game on Friday at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda

The KingsMen started like a house on fire and went into the break 43-29 up and never looked back until victory was sealed.

Kelvin Amayo led the charge for the Nigerian champions with 25 points, five assists and eight rebounds to wrap up an amazing campaign.

With the win over Cape Town Tigers, Rivers Hoopers added a new chapter to their history books by becoming the first Nigerian side to win bronze at the continental showpiece.

For their stellar performance in the Savannah Conference, where they finished top with four wins and their run to the semi-final capped by an eventual bronze-winning display, the head coach of Rivers Hoopers, Ogoh Odaudu has been named the Basketball Africa League Coach of the Year even before the final game is decided.

The 2024 BAL Coach of the Year award goes to the Rivers Hoopers mentor, Ogoh Odaudu

Following an impressive showing at the Sahara Conference, the Rivers coach guided his side to a third-place finish.

Al Ahly of Libya will engage Petro de Luanda of Angola in the final tonight with new champions set to emerge after all former champions failed to go all the way.
