The Cross River State Southern Senatorial District Assembly has issued a glowing assessment of Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s administration, citing a “remarkable turnaround” in the state’s fortunes across security, infrastructure, and economic management.

In a statement signed by John Offiong, Chief of Party, dated Wednesday December 24, 2025, the group, which is a coalition of professionals and stakeholders, noted that the state has transitioned from a period of institutional decay to one of renewed hope and fiscal discipline.

Reflecting on the 2023 general elections, the Assembly stated that their decision to advocate for the return of power to the Southern Senatorial District was rooted in the principles of equity and the urgent need for competent leadership.

“We are convinced that this decision was the right one. The emergence of Governor Bassey Edet Otu has clearly justified our position. From our assessment, his administration has recorded visible progress across key sectors,” the statement read.

The Assembly highlighted several landmark achievements that have reshaped the state’s landscape over the past months. Key among these is the aggressive urban renewal campaign in Calabar, the state capital, and the revitalization of the Bakassi Deep Seaport project.

The group also lauded the administration’s commitment to education and aviation, pointing to the development of a modern state library focused on innovation and youth development.

The acquisition of a new state aircraft for Cally Air, a move expected to boost regional connectivity and investor confidence.

The construction of the new Governor’s Lodge in Ogoja, which the group described as a strategic step toward decentralizing governance.

Beyond physical projects, the Assembly praised the Governor’s “firm leadership” in tackling inherited debts and restoring security. They noted that the heightened economic activity during the current festive period is a direct result of improved safety and a vibrant social environment.

Addressing the critics of the administration’s more stringent policies, the group maintained that “tough decisions are often required to correct years of decline.”

The Assembly, however, extended its commendation to the Governor’s cabinet, specifically noting the role of the Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar.

“Many members of the administration have demonstrated professionalism, competence, and commitment,” the statement noted. “In particular, we commend Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, whose firm leadership and coordination have helped ensure that the administration remains focused.”

The group also called for unity, urging all Cross Riverians to support the present administration to ensure that the ongoing reforms are consolidated.

“Sustained public support will help consolidate ongoing reforms and deepen democratic governance in our state,” the Assembly stated, reaffirming its own commitment to advocating for inclusive development and equity.
