Yeah but can your PS1 pad do THIS?
Especially as developers continue to simplify inputs, the fighting game community is seeing more and more players use standard console controllers instead of the arcade cabinet experience-replicating fight sticks that have long been a staple of the competitive scene.
You may be inclined to trade in your bulky fight stick for a smaller controller that’s easier to lug around, but before you make any such drastic commitments you have to see some of the crazy fight sticks Evo 2024 attendees brought with them to play on.
The team from the 2XKO booth caught up with three competitors with three very different arcade sticks, one of which was made from a picnic basket the user discovered on Amazon.
That’s right, this creative competitor looked at a real picnic basket and saw a fight stick, then proceeded to physically mod said basket and bring his vision into real life.
While there are plenty of wires and such inside, the basket itself still has enough room to do its original job, which is nice when you’re shopping around at all the Evo booths.
We see another example of awesome imagination brought into fruition in the form of a gigantic blue sword. The whole thing is made out of laser-cut acrylic and looks to be about the length of two and a half arcade sticks (and that’s not counting the gold hilt).
Though we don’t get to see it in the video, it also appears as though the sword stick lights up in what is surely a sight to behold. You can see both the basket and the sword, as well as “the mistake” in the quick video from 2XKO below:
