Blodia is looking good in the RE Engine
Capcom has a bunch of fighting game franchises besides just Street Fighter that they’ve barely ever touched in decades, so it’s nice to see them receive any sort of attention, even if just in a small cameo like this.
The developers just dropped a short new trailer for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which highlights one of Frank West’s additional costumes (and music) available in the Capcom Fighters Pack.
That special outfit is for not necessarily a character, but rather a mech from Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness.
Jin Saotome’s BX-02 Blodia is back in a form much smaller than we’re used to seeing since it has to fit around Frank’s body and not as a standalone machine.
It is admittedly pretty cool to see the signature red mech appear in modern 3D graphics, and the team seems to have done a pretty good job bringing the design into Dead Rising.
They even went so far as to include the shield, floating bit satellite and pile bunker weapon though they are likely just cosmetic and not functional — plus it’s also nice to see some battle wear and scuffs on the armor.
Cyberbots first released in 1995 in the arcades with Sega Saturn and PlayStation ports arriving in 1997 though only in Japan.
While it had a novel concept to set it apart from Capcom’s other fighting games by having characters pilot giant mechs, Cyberbots failed to garner the popularity of Street Fighter, Darkstalkers and Marvel vs. Capcom, so it never received a sequel.
We wouldn’t even see a translated home version in the West until the Capcom Fighting Collection in 2022.
Jin and Blodia have made appearances in other titles like Marvel vs. Capcom, Tech Romancer and in a Street Fighter 5 costume, so the pair have never fully been left behind.
Capcom previously unveiled what Darkstalkers’ Rikuo costume is going to look like in Dead Rising for the fighters pack too though we’re still waiting to see Ken Masters and Sodom too.
Plus, they all come with music from their games too.
These costumes along with more packs for Mega Man and Resident Evil will be available in the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster’s Digital Deluxe Edition, which is certainly a mouthful.
And Dead Rising itself is certainly no stranger to referencing Capcom’s fighters from before, so it’s also nice to see that tradition continue.
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is scheduled to release on September 19 digitally and November 8 physically for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
