It’s recently been revealed that a former Manchester United star has just received a four-month suspended sentence after an altercation with the police last summer.

The ex-Red Devil, Memphis Depay arrived at Old Trafford back in 2015 from PSV Eindhoven where he’d risen through the youth academy ranks to join the senior squad.

However, in a move to United worth £30 million, Depay struggled to make his mark.

In two years, Depay made 53 appearances with only seven goals and four assists, sealing his departure from United for only £13 million to Olympique Lyon.

Since then, the winger spent four years with Lyon where he found his form once more, grabbing 76 goals and 55 assists in 178 games, sparking interest from Barcelona, where he moved in 2021 on a free transfer.

However, the move didn’t exactly go to plan. A series of injuries limited Depay’s game time, seeing him only take to the pitch 42 times in two years, grabbing 14 goals and two assists.

He ultimately moved on to Atletico Madrid in 2023 where his injuries persisted, seeing him depart in 2024 without a club.

Now playing for Brazilian side Corinthians, Depay’s grabbed seven goals and five assists in 19 games, however, is also facing charges from an altercation prior to joining the Brazilian side.

The Dutch international has been handed a four-month suspended sentence for “dangerous driving” after being stopped by the police whilst on a night out in Monaco last summer.

Depay was “stopped by officers and breathalysed, with his blood alcohol level found to be 1.01 per millilitre – above the legal limit in Monaco, which is lower than in England and Wales, but the same as Scotland.”

Now, the attacker has been banned from driving for two years, with a fine issued of £75,000.

Taking to Instagram, Depay posted: “Last summer during my holidays in Monaco I made a mistake and decided to drive home after having some drinks in a restaurant.”

The post continued: “I should’ve got in a taxi instead but I didn’t so I would like to apologise and want to take full responsibility for my action. 2024 was a year of lessons and I will definitely learn from this one. 2025 we will do better. Memphis.”
