Forestry Commission releases approved revenue subheads for CRIRS collection, withdraws unauthorized evacuation passes

The Cross River State Forestry Commission has published a comprehensive list containing revenue subheads within the Commission that will now be collected by the Cross River Internal Revenue Service (CRIRS).

According to a public service announcement dated 28th August, 2025 and signed by Chairman of the Commission, Ntufam (Hon.) George O’ben-Etchi PhD, the publication of the approved revenue subheads followed the directive of the State Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, to the Forestry Commission to streamline its revenue and sanitize the sector by getting rid of all illegal revenue collections in the state.

“The Forestry Commission is hereby, publishing the following as approved and recognized revenue for collections by the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service: Fines and Fees; Hammering Fees; Industrial Development Levy on Timber; Joint Tax Board (JTB); Road Infrastructure Levy; Timber market; Chain Saw; Saw Mill; Timber Shades; Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs); Levy from Quarries operating in Forest Reserves; Farms operating in Forest Reserves.

“Members of the general public are by this notice advised to seek clarification from the office of the Chairman/CEO of the State Forestry Commission as anyone who violates this directive will face the consequences. Please all concerned are to take note accordingly,” the Chairman announced.

Similarly, another public service announcement dated 2nd September, 2025 and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mrs Bassey Onoyom Bassey, the Cross River State Forestry Commission orders the immediate withdrawal of unauthorized evacuation passes.

“Following the directive of His Excellency, the Governor of Cross River State, Apostle Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, to the Chairman/CEO of the Cross River State Forestry Commission to fully ensure the restoration of normalcy in the Commission, the following directive is hereby issued:

“All evacuation passes previously in the field before this directive is to be withdrawn and returned to the office of the Permanent Secretary with immediate effect.

“Field staff are strongly warned that any issuance of evacuation passes not duly authorized by the Commission shall attract severe consequences.

“The Commission expects strict compliance with this directive.”
