Flying Eagles To Battle Egypt In Nations Cup Opener

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will begin their U-20 Nations Cup campaign against the Young Pharaohs of Egypt on Wednesday, 30th April, at the 20,000-capacity Amadou Gon Coulibaly stadium in Korhogo.

The team will slug it out with Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa in Group B.

The first encounter against Egypt is billed to kick off at 6pm Nigeria time.

The Flying Eagles will next take on Morocco’s Young Atlas Lions at the same venue, starting 9pm Nigeria time on Saturday, 3rd May.

The Aliyu Zubairu team will complete the first round with a clash against South Africa in Korhogo on Tuesday, 6th May at 6pm Nigeria time.

It would be recalled that Nigeria qualified for the competition after winning the WAFU B U20 Championship title in Togo in October 2024.

The Flying Eagles crashed out of the last edition of the FIFA U20 World Cup in the quarter-finals, and they will be hoping to impress to book a place in the next edition in Chile.

The team are currently camping in Katsina, courtesy of the State Government, in the first phase of their final preparations for the continental championship.

A semi-final spot in Côte d’Ivoire will guarantee the Flying Eagles a place in this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Chile, 27th September – 19th October.

Senegal are the defending champions of the competition following a 2-0 win over Gambia in 2023.
