Although we’ve yet to see an actual trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat sequel film, there’s now a chance to get a look at some of the new and returning characters that’ll be duking it out on the big screen this year.
The first images of Kitana, Shao Kahn and more have now appeared online for Mortal Kombat 2 while the Mortal Kombat 1 game is also going to get some new content for it too.
Entertainment Weekly just shared a handful of images from the new movie that we haven’t gotten to see before as well as some information of interest to fans.
The most important pieces are the pictures of Shao Kahn and Kitana played by Martyn Ford and Adeline Rudolph respectively.
It’s too dark to tell exactly what’s going on with the Outworld ruler, however, the movie seems to have made his iconic helmet all metal with lower jaw piece included on the face instead of just the upper part that we normally see in the games.

Kitana’s design seems to be taking more from her Mortal Kombat 11 design with the shoulder / chest pads while wielding her signature bladed fans.
We already technically saw Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage in a teaser poster recently, but now we can see him in action next to Liu Kang, Jax and Sonya too.
And then the final image confirms Hiroyuki Sanada is of course returning as Scorpion because he kind of has to.

Unlike the first movie, it seems Mortal Kombat 2 will be focused much more on the actual Mortal Kombat tournament itself.
“They keep score throughout the movie,” said series co-creator Ed Boon. “There’s a visual representation of who is winning… It’s not just a tournament for the sake of a tournament. There are huge consequences, so you really are keeping score. And there are a lot of twists in it that keep you on your toes.”
It also seems Kano and Kung Lao may be coming back through the Netherrealm magic since they confirm both characters are in the new movie along with Quan Chi, played by Damon Herriman.

EW also reveals that “movie-accurate” skins for Johnny Cage, Kitana and Shao Kahn with presumably the actors’ likenesses will be coming to Mortal Kombat 1 sometime this year too.
Mortal Kombat 11 also did something similar with their own movie pack for the original ’90s film, so it’ll be interesting to see if they include new voices too.

This also means that MK1 content won’t be coming to an end with the T-1000 releasing tomorrow, but it’ll remain to be seen if that means we’ll be getting more characters and / or Kombat Pack 3 too.
Mortal Kombat 2 is set to hit theaters on October 24, 2025, and in other fighting game adaptation news, we recently learned Street Fighter is pulling its Director from the Eric Andre Show.
