A fire outbreak has engulfed the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) office in Oshodi, Lagos.
Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), are currently working to contain the inferno.
Reports suggest that the fire started around midnight on Wednesday.
Although no casualties have been reported, the fire has caused significant damage to the institute’s facilities.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown at the time of this report.
FIIRO, a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, was established in 1956 following recommendations by an economic mission sent to Nigeria by the World Bank in 1953.
The mission observed that industrial research activities in Nigeria were scattered, uncoordinated, and lacked a clear focus, leading to the decision to create the institute.
