After months of grinding and hard work, the final 32 players threw it down in Street Fighter 6 this week with a $1 million prize pool on the line.
Now that the thrilling action has wrapped up for the Esports World Cup 2024 in SF6, we’ve gone back and put together the final character stats for the top 32 and top 16 as well as the country representation breakdown across the bracket.
Starting out with the top 16 of the ridiculously stacked tournament, there ended up being 9 of SF6’s 23 characters who saw main play along with a few more picked just as secondaries.
The latest DLC character, M. Bison, continues to show his strength since he was the most popular pick among those who made it past the first day with Akuma right up there too.
We ended up seeing a fairly diverse top 8, however, where Bison, Akuma, Ed, Rashid, Ken, A.K.I. and Guile duked it out in the final day — and the only repeat was Ken.
• M. Bison – 3
• Akuma – 2 (2)
• Ken – 2 (1)
• Ed – 2
• Luke – 2
• Rashid – 2
• A.K.I. – 1
• Chun-Li – 1
• Guile – 1
• Blanka – 0 (1)
• JP – 0 (1)
• Manon – 0 (1)
When zooming out the results to the full top 32, the number of fighters seeing main play increased to 14 plus Blanka being the apparent go to pocket pick.
The characters who saw the biggest jump in usage compared to top 16 were Guile, Rashid, Akuma and M. Bison.
These new DLC characters continued their pattern further down the bracket too with the Psycho Powered boss and demon retaining their top spots with a few more players although Rashid, Guile and Ken were pretty close to catching them too.
That leaves out the likes of Ryu, Marisa, Lily, Kimberly, Jamie, E. Honda and Dhalsim from the finalist action entirely.
• M. Bison – 5 (1)
• Akuma – 4 (2)
• Rashid – 4
• Guile – 4
• Ken – 3 (2)
• Ed – 2
• Luke – 2
• Cammy – 2
• JP – 1 (1)
• A.K.I. – 1
• Chun-Li – 1
• Dee Jay – 1
• Juri – 1
• Zangief – 1
• Blanka 0 (3)
• Manon 0 (1)
As we got to see after the Last Chance Qualifier event, Japan had the most representation with 12 players making up over one-third of the top 32 while 10 countries in total had competitors still in the game.
Moving down to the top 16, Japan still dominated the ranks with 9 players in the running with the only other country that had more than one at that point was the United States, and neither would reach the final stage.
And then somehow, top 8 was made up of 6 Japanese players between G8S|Kawano, BC|Tachikawa, RB|Gachikun, FAV|Ryukichi, Eva:e|Hikaru and Saishunkan|Higuchi followed by just KSG|Xiao Hai for China and NASR|AngryBird for the UAE.
But numbers ultimately don’t matter for the results or players when only one person can win though it’s still interesting to see how dominant Japan was across the whole event.
