Street Fighter 3: New Generation was a wild game
There exists some crazy stuff in classic, old school fighting games that would cause even the most experienced and legendary players to do a double take. Seeing a come back in the Street Fighter 2 series that utilizes a random dizzy and is over in the blink of an eye will never not be amazing to behold.
But it was a moment in Street Fighter 3: New Generation that had fighting game legend Justin Wong reeling back in his seat. The pro player recently managed to end a round in an absurdly fast five seconds, with a perfect, and was left speechless.
JWong has been spending a lot of time revisiting classic fighting games from back in the day, both the good ones and the… interesting ones. However, some of the most impressive things we’ve been seeing from him have been coming from his time with the Street Fighter 3 series.
Playing its first entry, Justin found himself up against a Dudley player online. Using Ryu, the fighting game veteran put an incredibly swift hurt on his opponent.
Right as the round begins, JWong jumps over Dudley as he tries to duck under and close the distance. Ryu lands a raw standing heavy punch punish, then scores a quick three-hit punish combo beginning with a jump in.
All it takes from there is a quick double dash forward, a low crouching medium kick on Dudley’s wake up canceled into a Shoryuken and a super. And… that’s it. Just like that, the round and the game is all over.
Justin can be seen physically reeling back in his chair during this stream clip as the win screen pops up. The play was so fast and brutal, that all JWong had to say about it on Twitter was “Savage game.”
Savage indeed. Check out this amazing Street Fighter 3: New Generation moment below.
