Feeder fault throws parts of Abuja into blackout

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are grappling with power outages following a feeder fault affecting multiple areas.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announced the disruption in a statement issued on Monday and assured customers that efforts were underway to restore supply.

According to the notice, affected areas include Utako, Wuye, Jabi, Airport, NJI, NARSDA, NABDA, Lugbe Shoprite, Riverpark Estate, War College, Dunamis, NIGCOMSAT, and Nigeria-Korea Model School.

Additionally, customers in Lugbe Primary, Zuma Steel, Kapwa Village, NIA Junior/Senior, Tipper Garage, Tudu Wada, Peace Village, Video Club, CRD, 1R, T-Pumpy Estate, New Site, Back of Dunamis, Jedo, and Forte Royal Estate have also been impacted.

The blackout extends to key government and military installations, including Aso Drive, the National Security Adviser’s Office (NSA), the National Assembly (NASS), the National Judicial Council (NJC), the Federal Judicial Council (FJC), and the Supreme Court. Military facilities such as Wubassy Barracks, Army War College, Mambila Barracks, Yar’Adua Barracks, the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), Niger Barracks, Lungi & Agu Ironsi Barracks are also experiencing the outage.

“We regret to inform you that the power outage is due to a technical fault on the feeder serving these Public Affairs areas. Our dedicated technical team is working tirelessly to restore power as quickly as possible,” AEDC stated.

This is not the first time Abuja has faced a major power disruption. In February, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) implemented a blackout across the FCT to facilitate maintenance work on the 2x100MVA TR3 & TR4 transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
