The Federal Government Girls College Calabar Old Girls Association, Class of 2005, commemorated their 20th anniversary by awarding scholarships to the best graduating students of the school, a gesture aimed at motivating the next generation of female leaders.
Speaking at the ceremony held in the school premises on Monday September 29, 2025, Vice President of the Class of 2005, Kedei Ubi, expressed gratitude for the foundation the school laid for them two decades ago.
She stated, “This school gave us the foundation to chase those dreams, a foundation that has carried us through life, and for that, we are grateful.”

In recognition of academic excellence, the association awarded scholarships to eight best graduating students from each arm (A–H), encouraging recipients to “keep working hard, to believe in themselves, and to never forget the value of education.”
Kedei, however, acknowledged the President of the Association, Mrs. Glory Ene, for her tireless leadership and commended the generosity of their classmates for making the scholarships possible.
Echoing this sentiment, a member of Class 2005, Abenmire Adi, reflected on their shared history, stating that “This is 20 years since we left Federal Government Girls College Calabar. This is one ground that molded us, that shaped us into the women that we have become today.”
She explained the importance of giving back to the school, saying, “We came giving back. We came appreciating those who have worked hard. Those who are the best graduating students for the SS3 classes.”
Abenmire also highlighted the importance of mentorship among women and called on other sets to follow their example. She appealed to the federal government to enhance support for unity schools, noting the changes she observed and urging continued improvement.
Responding, Mrs. Roli Mercy, Director and Principal of Federal Government Girls College Calabar, welcomed the Old Girls warmly. She said, “The whole school community, we are happy about it. This gesture will go a long way to make the students work hard.”
The Principal commended the Class of 2005 for their generosity and encouraged other alumni groups to also contribute to the school, whether through awards, infrastructural support, or motivating students.
On her part, the Head Girl, Miss Jacob Greatness Anthony, expressed her inspiration from the event, saying, “It’s a very spectacular and special event. I want to come back as a big girl, as somebody with prestige. So that when next we will come back, we are going to look like you or look better than you.”
The event not only celebrated two decades of success since the Class of 2005 graduated but also reinforced an ongoing legacy of mentorship, academic excellence, and community support aimed at empowering future women leaders.
