The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, has called on car owners to install tracking devices and anti-theft systems to improve chances of recovering stolen vehicles.
This followed the recovery of two stolen cars and the arrest of three suspects linked to a car theft syndicate operating across various parts of the FCT, including Wuse, Central Area, Jikwoyi, and Bwari.
The FCT Command Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, in a statement, said officers at the Durumi Division on Friday, April 11, 2025, responded to a distress call concerning the theft of a “gold-coloured 2005 Toyota Corolla with registration number KUJ 208 DA”.
The vehicle stolen from the owner’s residence, Adeh revealed, was found in a workshop in Durumi where it was being illegally refurbished.
She said, “The vehicle was tracked to a workshop in Durumi, where it was discovered undergoing illegal refurbishment. The colour was being altered in an attempt to evade detection and facilitate a quick resale.
“A further search of the premises led to the recovery of another suspected stolen vehicle—a red Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 844 CK—previously reported stolen from a residence in Jikwoyi.”
Speaking on the arrest, Adeh said three individuals present at the location, identified as Steven Musa, David Dalyol (painters), and Ibrahim Mohammed (a mechanic) were arrested.
According to the police, “During interrogation, they confessed to being members of a car theft syndicate operating across Wuse, Central Area, Jikwoyi, and Bwari axis of the FCT. They admitted to stealing several vehicles, refurbishing them, and reselling them as newer models.
“The suspects are currently in custody and will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.”
The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting residents’ lives and property and called on members of the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
It urged the public to report such incidents through the following hotlines: 08032003913, 08033111911, or 07057321547.
